The course of true love never did run smooth and our young architect, the narrator and hero of ‘My Good Man: A Novel of Architects, Ape-Men, and Other Assorted Oddities’, finds his way in romance unexpectedly beset by a menagerie of fanciful beasts and beings. Aided and abetted by Hastings, that most perfect of gentleman’s gentleman, he takes each of these encounters head-on, discovering there is more to life than the wooing and the winning of a young lady’s hand. The posh and the paranormal collide in unexpected, hilarious ways in this comic tale by author Sanjay R Singhal and it is not always certain which is the more rarefied or unruly. Fans of the late PG Wodehouse will savour this backwards glance into a world of good manners, good breeding, and of course good sportsmanship, set in the Gold Coast of Chicago (and elsewhere) and sparkling with wit and wisdom. Enthusiasts of the paranormal will find some familiar faces in these chapters, including the Beast of Bray Road and the Chicago Mothman (among others). Like an exceptionally vintage Champagne each page is a froth of bubbles and brilliance, monsters and mayhem, captured in sharp, vivid dialogue and hysterically funny interludes. ‘My Good Man’ is a delightful caper, sure to please anyone with a thirst for social gossip and gleeful surprises!
